Must have Introduction to Modern to be considered for this class. Modern will perform in the spring recital. Modern dance incorporates a variety of classical disciplines and in some cases, pedestrian actions to create expressive movement. This style of dance focuses on the use of floor work, opposition, gravity and body weight (in conjunction with safe and appropriate body alignment) in order to creatively explore one’s dance space. This class will not perform in the spring recital. Dancers will learn how to feel and portray emotions through movement and breathe. Movement is drawn from emotions felt through song lyrics. Lyrical dance is a fusion of ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. Students must have experience in ballet and jazz. This class is a prerequisite to Modern 1 and Lyrical 1.
